Before your reading, remember:

Have an open mind

Sometimes, the cards tell us what we need to hear, not what we want to hear. Sometimes it makes no sense at all and we have to ask a bunch of clarifying questions. Remember to go with the flow and have an open mind, every reading is different.

From the book

There are countless books on Tarot. One of my favorites is still the little book that comes with the classic, yellow-boxed Rider-Waite Tarot deck. The book I found the most peace in is The Creative Tarot by Jessica Crispin. I still refer to it every time I do a reading.

It is a yes or no question

No its not. Life exists in gradient and shades, not black and white. Don’t expect to leave a Tarot reading with a firm yes or no answer. Expect to leave a reading with a fresh perspective, a renewed conviction, or maybe even more questions.

The Other Side

Communicating directly with your loved ones that have crossed over is not my specialty. I have great referrals if that is what you are looking for.

Does the Death card mean I am going to die?

Some of the cards have an intense message. Taking them at face value can be scary — but we don’t do that, not in my practice. Death is like the autumn — a change that must happen to bring the spring. The devil is not a creature lurking around the corner, it is likely a habit within you that needs to be examined and explored.

Does the card being upside down change the meaning?

In my practice, no, not necessarily. Many of my fellow practitioners do follow a philosophy that an upside card changes the meaning — it could mean that it is time to look internally instead of externally, or it could have a new meaning all together (the small Rider-Waite book has different meaning for many of the cards depending on how they are pulled). My most organic and grounded readings do not change based on the position of the card, but on rare occasions, with certain cards, I do look to the direction (The Hanged Man is a great example of that).

Who is talking through the cards?

Now that, my dear friend, is totally subjective. Is it the universe? God? A loved one on the other side? Nothing, just the luck of the draw? I don’t know for sure, but what I do know is that it is an energy that wants the best for you.
